Some Like It Hot

“Some Like It Hot” is a comedy directed by the famous Billy Wilder. Released in 1959, this classic black and white film stars Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis, and Jack Lemmon.
Maybe "nobody's perfect," as one character in this film suggests. But some movies are perfect, and “Some Like It Hot” is one of them. In Chicago, during the Prohibition era, two musicians, Joe and Jerry (Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon), happen to witness the St. Valentine's Day Massacre. In order to escape with their lives from the gang leader Spats Colombo (George Raft), the boys, in drag, join an all-woman band bound for Florida. They compete for the attention of the lead singer, Sugar Kane (Marilyn Monroe). Joe and Jerry’s new feminine identities, Josephine and Daphne, prevent them from acting on their desires. Still, they are determined to win her love and throughout the course of the movie take part in a series of gender-bending ploys complicated by the fact that Osgood Fielding (Joe E. Brown) has fallen in love with Daphne. The plot gets even thicker when Spats Colombo and his gang show up in Florida.

Some say that “Some Like It Hot” is the greatest comedy ever made in Hollywood. With Who am I to argue? This film is filled with clever lines that made me laugh out loud. Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis are quite the duo and Marilyn Monroe is as gorgeous as ever! It is the delightful combination of comedy, action, romance, and suspense that makes this film a true classic.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show

“The Rocky Horror Picture Show” is an erotic, exotic, and slightly psychotic musical comedy directed by Jim Sharman. Released in 1975, this cult classic stars Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon, and Barry Bostwick.

In the very opening scene of the movie, a very in-love couple, Janet (Sarandon) and Brad (Bostwick), are attending a wedding of some close friends of theirs. After the wedding, Janet catches the brides’ bouquet and Brad asks her to marry him through the song, “Dammit Janet.” In the very end of the movie, a cabaret style floor show is held with Janet, Brad, Dr. Frank-N-Furter (Curry), and others. The performance is interrupted by Furters’ two assistants, Riff Raff and Magenta, who kill Frank and two others. Janet, Brad, and another are spared and quickly leave the castle just as it takes off into space to return to the planet Transsexual in the galaxy of Transylvania.

Overall, “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” is an absolutely amazing movie. I have seen this movie numerous times and I will continue to watch it. Curry’s fantastic performance as Furter is utterly brilliant from the beginning to the stunning end. His demeanor, costumes, singing, it’s all well fitted to his character and I do not believe that any other actor could have pulled it off. The songs of the movie are fabulous. They take on a life outside of the film which I believe is what has made this film into a cult classic enjoyed by large groups. I know I have found myself dancing to the “Time Warp” a time or two. Lastly, I believe that the movie is a social phenomenon. It has brought a whole new meaning to the phrase “audience participation” with fans putting on their own shows all over the world for the last thirty years! If that does not warrant a viewing I do not know what does.
Iron Man

Robert Downey Jr. plays Tony Stark, a billionaire weapons creator who is as rich as Bruce Wayne and has more intelligence than Peter Parker. Stark is kidnapped and mortally wounded on a trip through Afghanistan. His only escape is constructing a metal suit to fight his way out.
After escaping Starks devotes his life to fighting the very people who use his weapons for evil. He uses the prototype metal man suit he made to engineer a sleeker version, giving us Iron Man.
Robert Downey Jr gives us one of the better super hero performances. It's easy to hold a moviegoers attention in the Iron Man suit. The special effects, gadgets, and eye-popping special effects, can sell themselves. The scenes where he's not wearing the suit is where we need to see the actor shine. Downey does a masterful job with his witty performance as Tony Stark. He's so believable as a billionaire/playboy/egomaniac that I'm not even sure if he's acting.

Even though it took 75% of the movie for the actual suit to be developed, the movie is well worth the watch. Dont forget to stay after the credits for a look at the sequal!
